We Did Not Lose Our Memories

我们没有失去记忆

This project dives deeper into the atrocities that the Chinese Government committed during the pandemic. The cyanotypes showcase the map locations of one protest and three tragic incidents that took place in China that were directly caused by the Government’s inhumane lockdown policies. For example, there was a fire in a high-rise and people could not escape because the doors were sealed; or a woman jumped out of the window because the quarantine personnels came in and forcefully “sanitized” (i.e. destroyed) everything inside her home. These incidents are strictly censored out on the Chinese Internet which is why we must remember them. The corresponding darkroom prints indicate the dates, coordinates and quotes/references from said incidents. I chose analog processes because to me, the physicality of the prints add a monumental quality to them.

Mediums: Cyanotype on paper, silver gelatin prints
